Alejandra Azuero-Quijano’s The Strike as Theory invites us to conceptualize the 2021 national strike that swept Colombia as an “epistemic uprising”, showing how popular repertoires of resistance and interruption managed to articulate national history to radically new time-rhythms, particularly ones that reorganized the aesthetic and historical coordinates through which politics is understood, imagined, and represented.

In this event, Azuero-Quijano will be in conversation with Sara Tufano, one of Colombia’s foremost political analysts on the feminist left.

Alejandra Azuero-Quijano is a lawyer, anthropologist and the author of El Paro como teoría: estallido e historia del presente en Colombia (Herder, 2023), currently being translated into English. She works as Assistant Professor of Anthropology at Swarthmore College and lives in Philadelphia. Sara Tufano is the author of Colombia: una herida que no cierra (Planeta, 2023) and a former member of the Clandestine Colombian Communist Party. After surviving the war, Tufano pursued graduate studies in Sociology. She now lives in Colombia.
