JustSeeds Artist Cooperative cofounder Josh MacPhee artist talk and workshop May 20th
ADVANCE REGISTRATION IS ENCOURAGED. Please click here.
The Soapbox, a community print shop and zine library, is delighted to announce that Josh MacPhee, a founding member of both JustSeeds Artist Cooperative and Interference Archive, is coming to Philadelphia for a one-day special artist talk at Just Seeds and workshop at The Soapbox. He is also the organizer of the Celebrate People’s History poster project. The author/creator of multiple publications and projects about the history of social movement culture, MacPhee’s work explores how culture has been central to the success of social justice movements.
From 3-4 pm, MacPhee will give an artist talk on his work, process, and projects, at Making Worlds Bookstore and Social Center (210 S. 45th St).
Afterwards, MacPhee will offer a unique risograph printing workshop at The Soapbox, where guests will collage their own political posters with graphics obtained from MacPhee’s A Lexicon of International Political Graphics, an archive of over 100 images from the past 200 years! The Soapbox will provide instruction and assistance on copying and printing these collages using our risograph printer.
This workshop is the second in The Soapbox’s Propaganda Party Series, which encourages artists to step up on their proverbial soapboxes and make their voices heard. The first event, a May Day Propaganda Party, offered participants the chance to screen print their own editions of historical radical and political posters.
Advance registration for the May 20th talk & workshop with Josh MacPhee is highly recommended as there is limited space.

ABOUT THE SOAPBOX
The Soapbox is a nonprofit community print shop, book and zine making center, and library of 3,500 rare handmade publications. Since 2011, we have been offering affordable workshops, equipment access, art exhibits, readings, a reading room, and edible printing events.
By providing resources, equipment, and instruction in printing, binding, and related self-publication arts, The Soapbox seeks to empower individuals and non-profit community organizations to disseminate information and creative voices. The Soapbox values art-making, word-smithing, and skillsharing towards a vision of social justice wherein all people have access to the means of production, and learn to produce materials that are accessible to the many rather than the few.
